Precor supports Aneurin Leisure Trust in three-site refurbishment

Welsh leisure trust, Aneurin Leisure (ALT), has announced it’s forging ahead with a £600,000 (US$821,000, €696,000) gym refurbishment in all three of its leisure centres.

When sites reopen after lockdown eases in April, Ebbw Vale Sports Centre, Abertillery Sports Centre and Tredegar Sports Centre will each feature a full complement of Precor strength, cardio and functional equipment.

Precor’s networked fitness solution, Preva, alongside Advagym by Sony will together ensure a strong focus on digital connectivity allowing the centres to offer a hybrid in-person and digital gym solution for returning and new members.

Tom Kivell, ALT’s fitness development manager, says: “We see coming out of lockdown as an opportunity to reopen with a competitive edge in our area.

“Precor offered us a fully consultative approach, identifying our needs and building all-encompassing solutions to meet them.

“We wanted to digitise the gym experience, fully connecting cardio and strength so the team can set goals, create challenges and track progress to offer results-based training.

“The data we can draw from Precor’s Preva and Advagym will also give us invaluable insight into how we meet member needs and improve service.”

The cutting-edge facilities will each offer Precor’s top-of-the-range 800-line cardio in the all-new Black Pearl All Tungsten colourway, with P82 touch-screen consoles and the Preva networked fitness solution.

In addition to delivering content via cardio machines, ALT opted to complement Precor’s new Resolute Strength line with Advagym by Sony – a unique solution that guides exercisers in using machines safely by loading each sensor with how-to videos, as well as logging every exercise completed.

To deliver a fully connected experience, ALT will display additional sensors in other zones, for example the functional space and Spinning studio, meaning exercisers can receive workout guidance and log their activity throughout the entire facility.

Precor’s design team undertook extensive consultation with ALT before creating an innovative layout for each site.

Each club will feature a custom-made Queenax™ functional training unit – including the first-ever Self-Standing Wall Solution to be installed in the UK, dividing a large open space into two focused training zones.

“The support we’ve received from Precor, before the tender and after, has been very assured, with nothing too ‘heavy’ to handle. We feel that Precor are not only the best partners for ALT but also our local community,” says Kivell.

Steve Carter, MD of Precor UK, comments: “In bucking the trend and choosing to future-proof its facilities now, ALT is testimony to the fact that our industry can come out of the pandemic fighting fit.

“In choosing to partner with Precor they’re putting technology at the forefront of their offer to ensure they can provide a best-in-class offer in their area.”
